Swieqi Braves regained the top position of the First Division table after beating San Giljan Saints 5-1. The Braves were returning to winning ways after a series of negative results and confirmed their challenge for the title with rivals Valletta St Paul’s.
The match had a quiet start until the 23rd minute when Swieqi went ahead through Mohamed Amri who beat the Saints goalkeeper. Five minutes later the Brazilian students made it two when it was Bruno Menezes who found the net with a beautiful freekick who stunned the opponent’s keeper. In the second half, the Braves continued where they left off, scoring three more goals in 20 minutes from Lucas Santos in the 40th minute, Pedro de Oliveira in the 60th minute and Eder Pacagnella in the 62nd minute. Robert Veskimae reduced the margin of the score for the Saints. Referee: Jean Pierre Mifsud. Even Balluta Barracudas returned to winning ways after beating Senglea Gunners with a unique goal by Nick Borg. It was a very tactical game with both sides defending well and with the first half ending in a goalless draw. Balluta came out better in the second half and scored the winning goal two minutes from the end of the match through Nick Borg who helped his team register their fourth seasonal victory.
For Senglea Gunners, things look a little worrying as they are in penultimate place in the table. Referee: Reno Galea. In the second division championship, Għaxaq Wolves were officially declared champions of the second division after beating Zebbuġ Youngsters 4-2.
It was not an easy game for the Wolves who, after scoring three goals at the beginning of the game, saw the reaction of the Youngsters which however was not enough.Marlon Farrugia put Wolves ahead after 14 minutes so that Waylon Spiteri doubled the score three minutes later with a wonderful shot from outside the box. Juan Pablo Alves Herrera scored the third goal in the 28th minute to make it 3-0 for his team.In the 28th minute, Zebbug reacted and reduced the score by Joshua Cutajar so that Luke Bezzina scored again in the 39th minute.However, the new champions sealed the victory through Sebastian Nayar in the 66th minute.Referee: Jonathan Balzan.Gudja Wanderers returned to winning ways after a series of not so positive results when they dominated and beat Bugibba Club de SWAT 4-1.By the end of the first half, the Wanderers were winning 4-0 as they took the lead in the 12th minute after an own goal by Udaharaj Thannikodungil, so that Neil Baldacchino scored two goals with Kurt Borg adding another from a penalty.Two minutes before the end of the match, Kirandas Kholatiparambil reduced the scoring margin for Club de SWAT.Referee: Gjorgji Bitri.
Kalkara Flames climbed to third place in the third division table when they beat Ħal Far Titans 1-0. The latter were suffering their third consecutive defeat where after a very good start, they are struggling to score.The goal that decided the match was scored by Neil Sammut in the 68th minute.
