ÖZIL HAS A NEW CLUB: He's staying in Istanbul, but he's moving to a rival!

Experienced German soccer player of Turkish origin Mesut Özil is a new player of Istanbul Basaksehir, the club confirmed.

Özil (33) and Basaksehir agreed on a one-year contract, with an option to extend the contract for another year.

This move came a few days after Fenerbahce announced that they had terminated their cooperation with Özil, two years before the expiry of the current contract.

He arrived at Fenerbahçe from London’s Arsenal in 2021, and scored eight goals in 25 games for the team from Istanbul last season, but he has not been in the team since March this year due to disagreements with the club’s management.

In his career, he played for Schalke, Werder Bremen, Real Madrid and Arsenal.

In the jersey of the German national team, he played 92 games and scored 23 goals.
