The traditional Boxing Day football tournament organised by the Malta Sports Journalists Association (MSJA) once again delivered sporting entertainment and social solidarity, raising €1,500 in aid of l-Istrina.
This year’s edition was staged at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and saw debutants TEAMmt, a newly formed side made up of television and media personalities, emerge as overall winners after a flawless run of results.

Captained by Malta Eurovision Song Contest singer Fabrizio Faniello, TEAMmt won all three of their matches, underlining their dominance with a convincing 3-0 victory in the final against a team composed of Members of Parliament. Their attacking intent and organisation proved decisive throughout the day as they overcame every challenge placed before them.

The other two participating teams, the Malta Sports Journalists Association and the Malta Football Referees Association, both suffered defeats against TEAMmt and the Members of Parliament. However, they provided one of the most entertaining moments of the tournament in their final encounter, sharing a thrilling 5-5 draw that drew applause from those in attendance.
The tournament was officially kicked off by H.E. President Myriam Spiteri Debono, who paid a visit to the Victor Tedesco Stadium and warmly welcomed the initiative. The President highlighted the strong symbolism of the event, noting how two important pillars of society, Members of Parliament and journalists, came together alongside referees and media personalities to raise funds for a noble cause. She also praised the tournament’s long-standing tradition and its continued contribution to social solidarity through sport.

MSJA President Antvin Monseigneur described the Boxing Day tournament as one of the association’s most eagerly anticipated events of the year, bringing together people from different walks of life in a spirit of unity and goodwill. He thanked all participants and those involved in the organisation for their contribution, while expressing confidence that the event will continue to grow in the years ahead.
