Novak Djokovic is not playing in the Masters tournament in Madrid, but that does not mean that he is not in the center of tennis events.
Former USA Davis Cup coach Patrick McEnroe talked about Novak.
“It’s about the combination of his height, vision, his range of shots and impeccable technique. If you put everything together, the perfect player, technically, is Novak Djokovic. Djokovic has no weakness. He can have a bad day or miss because he is annoyed, but you can outplay him like Wawrinka several times in big matches. But you have to play well on any surface to beat him,” said the younger McEnroe brother.
He especially analyzed Nole’s return.
“Andre Agasi had the best offensive return. Lleyton Hewitt was defensively better than Agassi in that sense, but he wasn’t nearly as good offensively. Roger Federer was also very good, it was difficult to hit an ace against him. Rafa Nadal is not a great returner, he worked on it. Not a great server either. “Novak is at that high level defensively, but he can also play great offensively,” believes Patrik.
He also touched the smallest details.
“In full stretch, Roger and Hewitt would manage to return the ball to the court. In that situation, Novak can actually play a more offensive return, or even neutral. Remember those amazing returns of serve against Roger in the finals of the US Open or Wimbledon. He was able to win those tie-breaks against him in that epic match, to simply not miss,” concluded the American expert.
