Novak Djokovic delivered a commanding performance to defeat Grigor Dimitrov and book his place in the Miami Open final, moving one step closer to a milestone 100th career title.
The Serbian star has rediscovered his best form after a rocky start to the season, arriving in Florida on the back of three consecutive defeats. However, in stark contrast to his earlier struggles, the 37-year-old has looked unstoppable, cruising through the tournament without dropping a set.
Djokovic Dismantles Dimitrov to Make History
Facing a familiar opponent in Friday’s semi-final, Djokovic made quick work of Grigor Dimitrov, who had fought back from a set down to win his quarter-final against Federico Cerúndolo. However, Dimitrov struggled physically and required assistance off the court after the match, unable to match Djokovic’s relentless intensity. The former World No. 1 dominated the encounter, allowing his opponent just five games on his way to another Miami Open final appearance.
With this victory, Djokovic set a new record as the oldest player to reach an ATP Masters 1000 final, surpassing Roger Federer’s mark from 2019. He also equaled Federer’s feat of reaching at least one final per season for 20 consecutive years—a testament to his longevity and consistency at the highest level.
Chasing a Landmark 100th Career Title
Djokovic’s victory sets up a Sunday showdown against Jakub Mensik, where he will have the chance to secure his 100th career title—a landmark only a select few players have ever achieved.
His most recent title came at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he captured his first Olympic gold medal, marking his 99th career triumph. Since then, he has been chasing the elusive century, coming close in Shanghai and the Australian Open semi-finals.
Speaking after his semi-final win, Djokovic expressed his excitement about the opportunity ahead:
“Ever since I won my 99th, which was the Olympic Games in Paris, I’ve been playing with the prospect of winning the special hundred titles,” Djokovic said.
“I was close in Shanghai. Semi-finals of Australia. I’ve been working hard to find that level of tennis that will put me in a position to fight for a big trophy. That’s what I’ve been doing this week. I’m happy with how I prepared, how I’ve played. I haven’t dropped a set. Now, I have a great opportunity—let’s see what happens in two days.”
With history on the line, Djokovic will be aiming to cement his legacy even further as he takes center stage in the Miami Open final.
