French tennis player Adrien Mannarino qualified for the quarterfinals of the tournament in Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands, after defeating Daniil Medvedev, the third player in the world, 2:1 in sets (4:6, 6:4, 6:2).
Mannarino, ranked 52 in the world, defeated the Russian player and the first seed in one hour and 59 minutes.
Medvedev broke the first set in his favor after three breaks after the score was 2:2, and the Russian made one more and kept the lead until the end of the set.
In the second set, with a score of 5:4, the Frenchman reached two breaks and a set point, and he used the second to tie the set.
On the heels of his excellent game in the second set, Manarino continued in the third. In the decisive set, he used two breaks to win and advance to the next round.
This was their sixth mutual match and the 34-year-old French tennis player’s fourth victory.
In the quarterfinals, Manarino awaits the winner of the match between Australian Jordan Thompson and Canadian tennis player Milos Raonic.
After a fantastic start to the season, Medvedev won two tournaments where the competition ended at the first hurdle, as he was eliminated at Roland Garros at the start.
