World number six Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from Serbia’s Davis Cup first-round qualifying tie due to injury, according to the country’s tennis federation (TSS).

Djokovic, who was scheduled to represent Serbia in their Jan. 31-Feb. 2 clash with Denmark in Copenhagen, retired from his Australian Open semi-final match against Alexander Zverev last week due to a hamstring injury. The 24-times Grand Slam champion faced boos from the crowd at Melbourne Park, responding by sharing a picture of an MRI scan of his left hamstring with the caption: “I thought I’d share this with all the so-called ‘experts’ on sports injuries.” Djokovic, aged 37, was a part of the Serbian team that secured victory in the Davis Cup in 2010 after an unforgettable triumph over France in Belgrade.

“While we are weakened by Novak’s absence, we remain determined to win. The Danes have a formidable player in Holger Rune, but our team is also exceptional, and I have faith in them,” said Serbia captain Viktor Troicki.
