The 2025 edition of the Billie Jean King Cup Finals will take place earlier than usual, with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) confirming a shift from November to September 16–21, in an effort to better align the competition with the start of the WTA Tour’s Asian swing.
The Finals will be hosted in Shenzhen, China, as part of a multi-year agreement announced in January, which sees the city hold the prestigious women’s team event until 2027.

This strategic rescheduling is designed to streamline the calendar for top players, many of whom face a packed schedule during the latter part of the season. WTA tournaments in Seoul, Beijing, Hong Kong, Wuhan, Osaka, Ningbo, Guangzhou, Tokyo, and Jiujiang will now follow the Finals across September and October, creating a more cohesive Asian tour leg.
Qualifying for the Finals is currently underway, with matches taking place in Tokyo, Brisbane, Bratislava, Ostrava, Radom, and The Hague. A new round-robin format sees 18 teams divided into six groups of three, with the group winners advancing to join hosts China and defending champions Italy in Shenzhen later this year.

The updated schedule is expected to improve player participation and reduce logistical challenges, while reinforcing China’s growing significance in the international tennis calendar.
