Video: Casha and Sultana shine in Premier Group Stage

Malta Snooker Championships 2024/2025

The National Individual Snooker Championships 2024/2025 continued with thrilling action across multiple divisions at the Malta Snooker Academy today, as some of the island’s best cueists battled it out in the group stage of the competition.

CE Installations Premier Division

Joseph Casha emerged victorious in a hard-fought contest against Shaun Sultana in the CE Installations Premier Division, securing a 4-2 win in their Best of 7 Frames match.

Casha showed his experience, controlling key frames and delivering some clinical breaks to hold off Sultana, who fought back valiantly after dropping the opening frames. The victory puts Casha in a strong position in the group, but the match also highlighted Sultana’s resilience, making him a player to watch in the upcoming matches.

With the group stage still underway, this win keeps Casha’s title hopes very much alive.

Goliath Coatings 1st Division

In the Goliath Coatings 1st Division, Frank Borg and Saviour Bringone faced off in a thrilling Best of 5 Frames encounter. Borg eventually came out on top, winning 3-2 after a tense battle that saw both players exchange momentum throughout the match. Borg showed his composure, edging out Bringone in the deciding frame after a nail-biting finish.

2nd Division

The 2nd Division saw an exciting match between Andrei Cini and Malcolm Blackman. In another Best of 5 Frames contest, Blackman pulled off a 3-2 victory, coming from behind to win after Cini had taken the early advantage. Blackman’s tactical play and ability to capitalize on Cini’s mistakes were key to his success in this encounter.

3rd Division

In the 3rd Division, Juuso Laitinen recorded a solid 3-1 win over Matthew Pace in their Best of 5 Frames clash. Laitinen’s consistent potting and sharp positional play proved too much for Pace, who struggled to find his rhythm in the latter frames. Laitinen’s victory ensures he remains a strong contender in this highly competitive division.

Masters Division

Finally, in the Masters Division, Raymond Micallef found himself on the losing side as he was defeated 3-0 by Mark Saffrett. Saffrett’s dominant display saw him take the match without dropping a frame, proving his class and composure in the group stage. Micallef, though disappointed, will look to bounce back in his upcoming matches.

Looking Ahead

As the National Individual Snooker Championships continue at the Malta Snooker Academy, today’s results have added extra drama to the tournament. With more exciting matches lined up in all divisions, the competition is sure to intensify as players fight for positions in the knockout stages.

The tournament will continue with further group-stage matches in the coming days, with plenty of snooker action still to come.
