The opening day of the ASA Centenary Cup, sponsored by Meridianbet, delivered a series of exciting water polo clashes across both the Premier Promotion and Presidents Cup brackets.

In the Premier Promotion fixture, Exiles Welbee’s overcame Birżebbuġa with a strong second-half performance, securing a 16–10 win. Despite Birżebbuġa’s early efforts to stay in the match, Exiles pulled away in the latter stages, demonstrating their experience and tactical superiority.
Meanwhile, the Presidents Cup saw two high-profile showdowns. San Ġiljan MAA Daikin looked sharp as they dispatched Sirens Build Fitness 15–9. The match showcased San Ġiljan’s attacking depth, with their offence consistently finding gaps in the Sirens’ defence.
In the day’s final encounter, Neptunes Best Gyms Malta edged out rivals Sliema Frank Salt Real Estate in a tightly contested 13–11 battle. Neptunes’ superior game management in the final quarter made the difference, handing them an important early win in the competition. Sliema, though competitive throughout, were unable to close the gap late on.
The Centenary Cup continues to honour 100 years of the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta, with teams competing across revamped formats aimed at increasing competitiveness and engagement. More matches are scheduled in the coming days as the tournament heats up.
