Nico Sciberras won the Silver Medal in the Trap Men Junior Event at the European Championship Shotgun Events which are currently taking place in Lonato del Garda Italy.
This was the first time ever that a Maltese Trap Junior Athlete managed to win a Medal in a Continental Championship.
With this score of 116/125, Sciberras had to go through a two-way shoot-off for the final stages with homeboy Riccardo Mirabile. Nico managed to come out on top eliminating the Italian with +8 hit targets to +7.
In the final stages the Maltese Athlete hit 41/50 targets, tying the score with Italy’s Matteo Dambrosi. This result meant that Nico had to go through another shoot-off, which this time was won by the Italian with +2 to +1 hit targets.
This saw the Maltese Flag being flown among two Italian Flags as Luca Gerri, the third Italian Athlete in this competition had to settle for the Bronze Medal.
The results of the other Maltese Athletes were:
Ryan Bugeja who competed in the Trap Men Junior Event hit 111/125, while in the Trap Men Event, Emmanuel Bugeja scored 115/125, Gianluca Chetcuti hit 112/125 and James Galea managed 110/125.
The Skeet Team will be travelling today as their competition is scheduled for the 22, 23 and 24 May. The Maltese shooters are among the 442 athletes from 42 nations participating in this competition at the Trap Concaverde Olympic Shooting Range.
