We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Chris Busuttil Leaver, the former president of the Hockey Association Malta who served with honour from 2000 to 2018.
Chris was more than just the President. He was vibrant character and left an unforgettable mark on hockey and all those who knew him. His tenure as President was marked by unwavering dedication, passion for the sport and a strong commitment to righteousness and integrity. He always had something to say, and his words reflected his beliefs and genuine concern for the hockey community.

Under his leadership, the Hockey Association obtained the lease of the National Hockey Centre in Kordin. The installation of the artificial grass surface at the hockey centre under his wing was a defining moment for Maltese hockey development, both locally and internationally.
In his playing days he played for the Banks, Luxol and White Hart hockey teams.
Chris was well known for his well-intended and principled stance on all matters ensuring that decisions were made in the best interest of the sport and its participants. His legacy is one of integrity and belief in the power of sport to bring people together.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife Nathalie, his son Luke (who is an ex-hockey player and a current umpire), his family and friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace dear Chris. You will be dearly missed, and you will always be remembered.
