Tyreek Hill’s teammates and coaches used words like “upsetting” and “regrettable” to describe body camera footage showing a police officer forcibly removing the Miami Dolphins receiver from his sports car and pinning him face-down during a traffic stop.
The incident outside the Dolphins’ stadium has garnered widespread attention. It has also sparked discussions in the locker room among Hill’s teammates, some of whom privately shared their own encounters with law enforcement, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa revealed.
“Hearing Tyreek’s voice in the footage was quite emotional for me,” Tagovailoa said on Tuesday.
The video released by the Miami-Dade Police Department on Monday evening showed that the traffic stop hours before Miami’s season opener quickly intensified after Hill raised his car window.
Hill lowered the driver’s side window and handed his licence to an officer who had been tapping on the glass. Hill then repeatedly asked the officer to stop knocking before raising the darkly tinted window again.
Following a brief exchange about the window, the body camera video shows an officer yanking Hill out of his car by his arm and head, then forcing him face-down onto the ground. Officers handcuffed Hill and one placed a knee on his back.
