Lewis Hamilton has expressed his excitement after officially joining Ferrari, ending a 12-year association with Mercedes. Speaking for the first time since the move, the British driver shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming season and the fresh challenge ahead.
Hamilton, who turns 40 next Tuesday, described his transfer to Ferrari as a pivotal moment in his career. “There’s a lot to reflect on, but I’m ready for this change,” he said. “I want 2025 to be a year I’ll always remember.”
The seven-time world champion is set to make his Ferrari debut on Sunday, 16 March, at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. Before that, Hamilton will drive the Ferrari for the first time on 19 February at the team’s headquarters in Maranello, followed by pre-season testing in Bahrain the following week.
Hamilton’s last race victory came at the British Grand Prix in July 2024, breaking a winless streak that lasted two and a half years. However, his final season with Mercedes was a disappointing one, with the Briton finishing seventh in the drivers’ standings.
For Ferrari, Hamilton’s arrival signals renewed hope for the upcoming season. The Scuderia finished second in the 2024 Constructors’ Championship, behind McLaren, and are aiming to reclaim the title they last won nearly 20 years ago. A record-breaking eighth Constructors’ Championship is the ultimate goal for the iconic Italian team.
