Floriana emerged victorious in the Opening Round of the 360Sports Malta Premier, clinching a 1-0 win against Birkirkara during a critical match on match day 16 of the Top 6 at the National Stadium on Saturday.
This victory marked the completion of Floriana’s resurgence, as they were the team to break Birkirkara’s unbeaten streak with a draw and nine consecutive victories in the league phase. Following that defeat, Birkirkara managed only one win against Mosta and secured a draw with Sliema Wanderers, while suffering losses to Hamrun Spartans, Hibernians, and Floriana.
In contrast, Floriana maintained steady form throughout the Opening Round, experiencing just one loss in fifteen matches and dropping points only in five draws.
The crucial goal for the Greens was netted two minutes into the second half. Matias Garcia provided an assist from the right, enabling Carlo Zammit Lonarelli to slot the ball past goalkeeper Giacomo Volpe.
