Valletta and Marsaxlokk meet at the National Stadium on Saturday at 2PM, in what is believed to be a balanced and interesting match from the YoHealth Malta Premier Closing Round.
Valletta go into the match sitting fifth in the closing round table with 16 points, needing only a point to secure a top six finish. However they can also make it to the Top Six with a loss depending on other results. Marsaxlokk, already confirmed in third place with 18 points after a strong run that included five wins from their last ten matches, arrive with their place in the next phase already guaranteed. Both sides share identical current streaks, unbeaten in two, scoring in consecutive matches, but also failing to keep a clean sheet in their last three outings.

Both clubs go into the match without key players. Valletta will be without Neil Anthony Micallef through suspension, while Marsaxlokk are missing influential midfielder Leandro Damian Aguirre. Several players on both sides also carry the threat of suspension having accumulated three yellow cards, adding an extra layer of tension to an already fiercely contested local rivalry.
In front of goal, Valletta’s Brazilian forward Yuri De Jesus Messias leads the way with 11 league goals, making him the standout performer going into Saturday’s clash. For Marsaxlokk, Dodo has been equally impressive, contributing 9 goals and 5 assists to establish himself as one of the most complete attacking players in the YoHealth Malta Premier League.
In the dugout, Valletta coach Thane Micallef holds a strong personal record against Saturday’s opponents, winning three of his four meetings against Marsaxlokk without a single defeat. Marsaxlokk’s experienced Italian coach Enzo Potenza has yet to beat Valletta since taking charge at the club, losing both encounters to date.
With Valletta just one point away from securing their top six place and a genuine rivalry to fuel proceedings, a tight and competitive afternoon at the National Stadium looks very likely.
