A hard-fought relegation battle ended all square on Sunday, as Żabbar Saint Patrick snatched a late equaliser to deny Tarxien Rainbows all three points.
Both sides had already been confirmed in the Bottom Six heading into this fixture, meaning the next phase of the season will see them battling it out to avoid relegation. Despite the stakes being somewhat settled, neither team was willing to give an inch.
Tarxien took the lead in the 53rd minute when substitute Manyluak Aguek delivered a cross from the right, and Patrick Schmidt met it with a firm header that beat goalkeeper Ignacio Colombo completely.
Żabbar levelled in stoppage time of the second half. Substitute Mario Fontanella received the ball on the right and curled a fine finish into the Tarxien net to make it 1–1.
A point apiece, but it is Żabbar who will be the happier side. The draw leaves Tarxien Rainbows in 11th place, four points behind Żabbar in 10th.
Both clubs will now turn their attention to the Bottom Six phase, where every point will count in the fight to preserve their top-flight status.
