The rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid can often leak out of the field, as the coach and legendary midfielder of the Catalans, Xavi Hernandez, reminded us of this today, with a statement before the Champions League match.
The Spanish expert compared the competition in La Liga and the Champions League, whose history is ruled by the undisputed Real Madrid with 14 won titles, while Barcelona has five.
– I think the Champions League is much more difficult. Primera is fairer because, as we’ve seen, the Champions League is not always won by the best teams – Xavi said at today’s conference before the match with Inter, and the Royal Club had an express reaction:
– It is a matter of subjective opinion. But when you’ve won five of the last nine editions of the Champions League, you can’t talk about luck. Is the Champions League less fair than Primera? The debate about it always flares up when Real win it. When someone else does it, meritocracy (based on merit) is always fair – said Dani Carvajal.
Coach Kraljevic followed up on the words of the right back of Real Madrid, stating that there is no doubt as to which competition is more important.
– I always wanted to win the Champions League more. Championships are important, but the Champions League is above all. They are different competitions. One counts 38 games, the other much less. In a double match of 180 minutes, the details are much more important. Sometimes the story of happiness hides the problems you face and the merits of your rivals. If I say that we were unlucky against Osasuna, it means that I am hiding the problems that we had and the quality of the opponent – said Ancelotti and added:
– The story of the details is important, in the Champions League you can score three goals in a few minutes and that happened to us. That can happen to you in the semi-finals. Small details are controlled by a strong mentality, and Real Madrid is the team that took care of the details the most – Ancelotti is clear.
