Chelsea appoint Bompastor as new head coach

Chelsea have announced the appointment of Sonia Bompastor as their new head coach, signing her on a four-year deal, the Women’s Super League champions revealed on Wednesday.

Bompastor will make the move from Olympique Lyonnais to take over from Emma Hayes, who stepped down from her position after nearly 12 years in charge to become the head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Team.

Aged 43, Bompastor, who earned 156 international caps for the French national team before retiring in 2013, assumed the role of Lyon’s first-team head coach in April 2021.
