Chelsea welcome Polish opposition to Stamford Bridge for the first time on Thursday as they host Legia Warszawa in the Conference League quarter-finals.
Enzo Maresca’s side boast a commanding lead heading into the second leg after securing a 3-0 win in Warsaw last week. They became the first English outfit to win away to Legia since Manchester United in 1991.
19-year-old Tyrique George opened the scoring with his maiden professional goal early in the second half before a Noni Madueke brace put the Blues within touching distance of the semi-finals.
Legia enter the second leg on the back of consecutive defeats after a 1-0 loss at home to Jagellonia at the weekend – a result that saw their opponents go 11 points clear in the last European spot in the Ekstraklasa.
Goncalo Feio’s side will aim to get their form back on track in West London, but the club has failed to win in their four competitive visits to England – most recently losing to Leicester City and Aston Villa.
Stamford Bridge has proven a tough place to go recently, with Chelsea unbeaten in eight matches (6 wins, 2 draws) in 2025. Though they did have to come from 2-0 down to draw with Ipswich Town on Sunday.
If Legia are to cause an upset and reach a first European semi-final since 1991, they must achieve what no other club has done in Europe: overturn a three-goal deficit against the West London club.
