Defending champion Casper Ruud reached the quarter-finals of the Barcelona Open after defeating Hamad Medjedovic 7-5, 7-5, coming back from a break down in both sets.
Stefanos Tsitsipas, last year’s finalist and third seed, also progressed with a solid 7-6(4), 6-4 win over Sebastian Korda. He will now face Arthur Fils, who dominated Pedro Martinez 6-3, 6-2.
Meanwhile, Holger Rune fought back from a set down to overcome Sebastian Baez 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, showing resilience after withdrawing from Monte Carlo due to illness.
On Thursday, Carlos Alcaraz, world number two, will take on Laslo Djere as he continues his campaign for a third Barcelona Open crown.
