Recently, Atletico received a 30,000 euro fine, which included a conditional ban on selling away tickets for a UEFA match, due to their supporters’ “racist discriminatory” actions during a 4-0 loss to Benfica in the Champions League. Earlier this month, RFEF mandated that Atletico play their next three home games with some sections of their stadium closed after disruptions during a match against Real Madrid resulted in items being hurled onto the field. “The harm done to Atletico’s reputation and that of its supporters—most of whom conduct themselves impeccably—is challenging to mend,” the club stated on Wednesday.
