Atletico Madrid has decided not to sell tickets to season ticket holders for the next five away games following sanctions from UEFA and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), the club announced.

Recently, Atletico received a 30,000 euro fine, which included a conditional ban on selling away tickets for a UEFA match, due to their supporters’ “racist discriminatory” actions during a 4-0 loss to Benfica in the Champions League. Earlier this month, RFEF mandated that Atletico play their next three home games with some sections of their stadium closed after disruptions during a match against Real Madrid resulted in items being hurled onto the field. “The harm done to Atletico’s reputation and that of its supporters—most of whom conduct themselves impeccably—is challenging to mend,” the club stated on Wednesday.

“The gravity of the situation and our duty to uphold the club’s image have compelled us to implement this measure while those responsible for such incidents are identified.”
