Bayern Munich’s chances of directly qualifying for the Champions League knockouts took a hit when they were shocked by Feyenoord. The top eight teams in the league phase automatically advance to the next stage, and a victory for Bayern would have all but secured their spot with one game left.
The match was momentarily halted just after the start due to smoke from flares causing poor visibility on the field. When play resumed, Bayern appeared sluggish and fell behind in the first half as Santiago Gimenez made a run into the box and fired past Manuel Neuer. Feyenoord’s goalkeeper Justin Bijlow made a crucial save to deny Harry Kane an equaliser, and it proved to be significant as the hosts scored a second goal right before half-time. Calvin Stengs was fouled inside the box, resulting in a penalty that was confidently converted by Gimenez. In the second half, Bayern pushed to get back in the game, but Bijlow’s excellent fingertip save denied Jamal Musiala. Feyenoord secured their victory with a late third goal from Ayase Ueda.

This result places Bayern in 15th position in the standings, one point behind the top eight, with their final league phase game against Slovan Bratislava next Wednesday. Feyenoord’s win improved their chances of finishing in the top eight as they are now in 11th place, tied on points with eighth-placed Leverkusen and will face Lille next Wednesday.
