UEFA: Čeferin announced the introduction of salary and transfer limits

Due to the huge amount of money that certain clubs invest in players, there are also those who cannot afford it, so UEFA is on the move.

There is a growing financial gap, and it seems that it could be growing year by year, between the strongest leagues and clubs and those with less paying environments in the same small leagues and other less attractive championships.

According to the British newspaper ‘The Times’, UEFA should introduce a limit on player salaries and transfers, which would bring some balance to Europe’s strongest leagues.

In that case, smaller clubs would have a greater chance to compete more than before with clubs whose strongest trump card is money.

However, in order for UEFA to be able to implement this law at all, the approval of the EU, the Union of Professional Footballers and the Union of European Leagues is required.

So far, however, there have been no serious talks about the amount of the limit, but a potential limit would supplement existing FFP regulations that limit European clubs’ operational spending to 90% of revenue this year, 80% next year and 70% in 2025.

The president of UEFA, Aleksander Čeferin, has already talked several times about the fact that the introduction of the “celery cap” is necessary for the sake of a healthier future of professional football.

“If the budgets grow to the sky, then the competitive balance between the clubs will be a serious problem,” said Čeferin.

He added that all clubs, big and small, have accepted the idea of a salary cap, which is still waiting to be implemented.
