On first sight, it looked imposible. Mostly because Barcelona doesn’t have a lot of money to spend, but in the end, the fans can rub their eyes because it’s true. Ferran Torres is the new player of the Spanish giant!
This transfer has been brewing for several weeks. At first, Manchester City did not intend to release the talented footballer, but in the end he had to.
As soon as Torres heard that Barcelona was calling him and that he had a real chance to return to his homeland, he asked Pep Guardiola to leave, and he fulfilled his wish.
Very quickly, Barcelona and Torres agreed on personal terms of cooperation that will last for the next five years, so it remains for the two clubs to agree on compensation.
At the beginning of the negotiations, City asked for a huge 75,000,000 euros, which was clear to everyone that Barcelona could not send.
After a long struggle, the two sides found themselves on a fixed amount of 55,000,000 euros with additional bonuses of 10,000,000 euros!
There is no doubt that the transfer has been agreed upon, and Barcelona and City are already working on a joint press release confirming the transfer.
What’s more, Torres is expected to arrive in Barcelona tomorrow for medical examinations and signing a contract, and he would be available to coach Xavi before the new year.
Manchester City also did well in the whole business, paying Torres only 28,000,000 euros to Valencia. So, the “citizens” earned twice on the Spanish wing.
His departure could mean that Rahim Sterling will finally get more space and will eventually stay in Manchester.
On the other hand, Xavi will be very important to Torres, because, in addition to the wing positions, where he was decimated due to injuries (Depay, Fati, Pedri..), he can also cover the place of the striker who often played for Guardiola in City.
However, there is no doubt about one thing. Barcelona and Xavi received a great reinforcement and, more importantly, they sent a message that the club is not in as many channels as it is thought and that they will attack the Champions League placement next season with all their might.
