Time is running out for Simone Inzaghi at Inter!

Although Simone Inzaghi is still officially Inter’s coach, the Italian media have started bidding for his successor.

According to them, there are four serious candidates who could succeed Inzaghi in the near future.

The preferred option would be current Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi, who has exceeded expectations on England’s south coast since taking over from Graham Potter in September. Inter assistant sporting director Dario Bacin knows De Zerbi well from their time together at Palermo and had already made contact with the former Sassuolo coach before eventually signing Antonio Conte in 2019.

De Zerbi is contracted to Brighton until the summer of 2026, so the Nerazzurri will likely have to shell out a hefty fee and fend off Premier League competition in the form of Tottenham if they are to sign De Zerbi.

Antonio Conte is already being linked with some of Italy’s top jobs after his contract with Tottenham was terminated by mutual consent last week. The 53-year-old is a tried and tested option, and Inter already know what they would be getting themselves into by re-engaging the manager who won the club’s first Scudetto in 11 seasons at the end of 2020-21.

Perhaps one of the more affordable options on the market, Thiago Motta currently has just over a year left on his contract with Bologna. The upcoming 40-year-old has impressed during his spell with Bologna, who currently sit eighth in the Serie A table. Motta looks set to join a ‘big club’ when he eventually decides to leave Bologna, and a move to Inter could suit both sides.

According to Gazzetta, the “fantasy” option is Diego Simeone. Simeone has long been a fan of Inter and has never hidden his interest in taking charge at the San Siro. However, despite his contract expiring in 2024, Simeone is currently among the highest paid coaches in world football, currently taking home around €22m per season, which is an aggravating circumstance.

Time seems to be running out for Simone Inzaghi at Inter, who will almost certainly be out of a job until the summer if the team pulls off a Champions League miracle.

Will Inzaghi be replaced?
