Torino claimed their first Serie A win of the season with a 1–0 victory at the Stadio Olimpico, ending an eight-match losing run against Roma and inflicting Gian Piero Gasperini’s first defeat as Giallorossi head coach.
After two 1–0 wins to open the campaign, Roma struggled to build fluency in a tepid first half. Headers from Gianluca Mancini and Mario Hermoso brought routine saves from Franco Israel, while Torino offered little beyond a speculative effort from Giovanni Simeone from distance.
Gasperini introduced Tommaso Baldanzi and Evan Ferguson at the break to inject urgency, but it was the visitors who found the decisive touch. Simeone drove into Roma territory, exchanged passes with Cyril Ngonge and bent a superb strike into the far corner from outside the box.
Matías Soulé went close to an immediate reply with a first-time effort that skimmed past the top corner, and Mile Svilar later denied substitute Zakaria Aboukhlal to keep Roma in it. Yet the hosts never fully controlled the closing stages, with Torino the likelier side to add a second on the counter.
Niccolò Pisilli forced a late save from Israel, but Simeone’s finish stood as the difference. The result ends Torino’s run of four successive away league defeats and gives them lift-off for the season, while Roma suffer a first home loss in 14 and must regroup quickly before the Derby della Capitale against Lazio next Sunday.
