Juventus see off Sassuolo 3-0 as David leads the way

Juventus closed the first half of the Serie A season with a convincing 3-0 victory away to Sassuolo, producing a composed and clinical display at the Mapei Stadium to keep pace with Roma in the race for the Champions League places.

The breakthrough arrived in the 16th minute when Muharemovic turned the ball into his own net, inadvertently heading past his goalkeeper while attempting to cut out a dangerous cross delivered by Kalulu. The early goal allowed Juventus to control the tempo, limiting Sassuolo’s attacking threat and dictating possession for long spells.

After the interval, the visitors stepped up a gear and the match was effectively settled within two decisive minutes. Jonathan David, handed a starting role by Luciano Spalletti despite recent criticism following a missed penalty against Lecce, played a central role. First, the Canadian forward showed awareness and composure to set up Fabio Miretti, who finished confidently to double Juventus’ advantage.

Moments later, David completed his personal redemption by capitalising on a costly back pass error from Idzes, racing through on goal and calmly slotting home to make it three. It was a telling contribution from a player under scrutiny and a reminder of his quality in the final third.

Juventus managed the remainder of the contest with maturity, seeing out the result without major scares and underlining their growing solidity under Spalletti. The win takes the Bianconeri to 36 points at the halfway stage, level with Roma in fourth place but ahead on goal difference.

For Sassuolo, the defeat leaves them stranded on 23 points, with Fabio Grosso’s side struggling to find consistency against top-level opposition.

Juventus will now turn its attention to the second half of the campaign, buoyed by a result that reinforces its ambitions of a strong finish and a return to Europe’s elite.
