Fiorentina have moved up to the top four in the Serie A standings ahead of Juventus following a narrow 1-0 win over Genoa on Thursday, thanks to Robin Gosens’ goal in the second half. Both teams made some changes to their starting line-ups after the previous weekend’s fixtures. Moise Kean was absent from Fiorentina’s line-up, while Balotelli did not make an appearance for Genoa.
Genoa came close to scoring first when Alan Matturo attempted an acrobatic shot from a free kick, but David De Gea easily saved it. Stefano Sabelli also had a close chance with a shot that went just wide of the post. Fiorentina’s Amir Richardson had a promising shot from the right, but Nicola Leali managed to block it.
The breakthrough for Fiorentina came 25 minutes into the second half when substitute Yacine Adli assisted Lucas Beltran, who crossed the ball into the box. After initially missing his header, Gosens managed to get a foot on the ball and score past Nicola Leali to secure the 1-0 victory.
Patrizio Masini almost equalized for Genoa late in the game with a bicycle kick, but the shot missed the target. De Gea made another crucial save in injury time, stopping Johan Vasquez’s header. In the following play, Christian Kouamé attempted a long-range shot despite having a clear one-on-one opportunity, but his shot missed the target.
Fiorentina now sit in fourth place in the Serie A table, pushing Juventus down to fifth, while Genoa remain at the bottom of the league with six points after 10 games.
