The sports director of the Bayern Munich football club, Hasan Salihamidzic, said today that striker Robert Lewandowski will not leave the club at the end of the season.
When asked by journalists whether he could turn off that option, Salihamidzic answered “yes”.
He reminded that the contract with the 33-year-old Polish striker expires in June 2023.
“It is clear that we will now discuss what will happen next,” Salihamidzic said.
The sports director of the Bavarian club added that the negotiations have not started yet, adding that he does not see that they are in a difficult position.
In 2020 and 2021, Lewandowski won two consecutive awards for the best player chosen by the International Football Federation (FIFA).
Bayern beat Borussia Dortmund 3-1 at home on Saturday, and with that triumph they reached the 10th consecutive Bundesliga title.
Lewandowski said after the match that “talks have not started, and that he is not in an easy situation”.
Immediately after that, the media started speculating about his desire to leave the Bavarian club. For several days now, there has been talk of a possible transfer to Barcelona, which would be worth around 40 million euros.
The Polish player has scored 48 goals in 43 games in all competitions this season, and is also the Bundesliga’s top scorer with 33 goals.
