Back this summer, the big question was how Salrenitana would compete in Serie A. Somehow the license was obtained, but now real chaos is brewing!
The main problem is that the owner of the club is the controversial Claudio Lotito, who is also the first man in Lazio.
Of course, the rules in Italy do not allow the same owner to have two Serie A clubs due to an obvious conflict of interest.
Lotito somehow managed (it is known that he is also politically very powerful and well connected in Italy) to get permission for Salernitana players to play in Serie A, provided that he finds a new owner by the end of December.
At the moment, on paper, the club is led by one of the members of the board, but that situation can last until December 31, which is very soon.
Lotito can’t find buyers for Salernitana. An even bigger problem for him is that according to the local law, he is not allowed to sell the club to any relative up to the fourth generation.
Lotito offered Salernitana several times. This summer, this fall, but there are simply no interested parties. Neither in Italy, nor abroad.
Therefore, it is increasingly certain that the club will have to withdraw from the competition in 2022, which leaves the question of the regularity of Serie A.
Regardless of the fact that Salernitana is currently last on the Serie A table, there are teams whose points were cut off and which would be damaged in that way. All under the assumption that the departure of the club will be resolved by giving each subsequent opponent an automatic victory of 3:0.
Essentially, Serie A would then stay at 19 clubs, which is a precedent that is not really remembered in modern football! Not only in Italy but also in Europe…
There will only be chaos and shouts in Serie A. But let’s wait another two weeks to see the official decision of the leaders there…
