The Football Association of France punished the Lyon team by taking away point due to the incident in the match with Marseille.
During the match, one of the fans of the home team hit the head football player of the guests, Dimitri Payet, with a bottle, when the midfielder took a corner.
On that occasion, Payet suffered a cut on his head, and the match was immediately interrupted due to safety.
The French Football Association addressed the incident.
– Any act of violence against a player, especially a famous player, exposes the club that is responsible for losing points. The committee also took into account Lyon’s actions immediately after the incident. The Disciplinary Committee cannot pass sanctions against the fans directly, but it is there to assess the responsibility of the clubs – said Sebastian Deno, the President of the Disciplinary Committee.
In the meantime, the perpetrator of this crime was discovered, so he was given a suspended sentence of six months in prison with forbidden access to the Lyon stadium for five years.
In addition to deducting points, Lyon will have to repeat the match with Marseille, but without the presence of the audience.
