Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta was proud of his team after the 1:0 win over Manchester City.
Mikel Arteta defeated his teacher Guardiola for the first time in the Premier League, and Arsenal overtook City in the table and found themselves in second place and have 20 points, as many as the leader Tottenham.
The goal for Arsenal was scored by Gabriel Martinelli in the 86th minute.
Arteta is delighted to have beaten the best team: “It’s an amazing feeling, it felt like we hadn’t beaten them in many years, and now we were celebrating against – in my opinion – undoubtedly the best team in the world. And we did it in a great way. There were moments when we struggled, but also those when we showed determination, desire and belief in victory. I don’t know if there was a psychological barrier, but obviously we had to overcome it. In order to beat them, we first had to lose, and that in two different ways. At the Etihad, we were better in the first half and then conceded a goal after a mistake by Tomiyasu. Now we have shown maturity, and that comes with experience.”
Mikel Arteta added that he is proud of his team both when they lose and when they win: “This victory above all sends a message to my team, to continue to believe in what we are doing. This is a fantastic group of players – the effort they put in, mutual understanding, chemistry … I was also proud on Wednesday when we lost, and I’m proud now that I’m part of this team”.
