Leeds United and Argentine expert Marcelo Bielsa have officially terminated their cooperation after three years.
Leeds lost to Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 at Elland Road on Saturday, after losing to Liverpool 6-0 at Anfield on Wednesday.
Bielsa’s position in Leeds was under greater consideration than that heavy defeat at Anfield, and the club’s management definitely made a decision when his team was by far the second-best on Saturday.
Former coach of Salzburg and Leipzig, American expert Jesse March is the favorite of Bielsa’s position on the bench of the three-time English champion.
March is believed to be among the candidates to replace Bielsa in the summer, but those plans could now be escalated.
The first man of the club, Andrea Radrizzani, addressed the fans of the parting with Bielsa.
– This was the most difficult decision I had to make during my stay at Leeds United, considering all the successes that Marcelo achieved with the club. We had three amazing seasons with him as head coach and the good times returned to Eland Road. He changed the culture of the club and restored his winning mentality. The moments he created, first in the 2019/20 season when we returned to the Premier League, will live on in our memories for a long time – after all, the first man of the Leeds management must cut it off:
However, I had to react in the interest of the club and I believe that change is necessary in order to secure the status in the Premier League. The latest results and performances did not meet our expectations. Of course, together with everyone in the club, I would like to thank Marcel for all his efforts and achievements and we wish him all the best in the future – concluded Radrizzani.
The popular “Crazy” joined Leeds in 2018, two seasons later he returned the team from Elland Road to the elite company after 13 years, and with his exciting way of football, he won all the sympathies of football fans in the Premier League. In that debut season, Leeds finished in ninth place, with 59 points, but this season, “Peacocks” failed to maintain the same level, and are currently 15th in the table.
