Manchester United is reportedly preparing a final bid for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, signaling their intention to inform Chelsea about their willingness to make one last offer for the talented player.
In recent weeks, it has become evident that Mount, a product of Chelsea’s academy, has no plans to sign a new contract and has set his sights on a move to Manchester United.
This development coincides with Chelsea’s need to generate substantial transfer funds before the end of June to strengthen their financial position under Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.
According to reports, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital have agreed to sell Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, Mateo Kovacic, Hakim Ziyech, and Kai Havertz, with the deals expected to bring in over £100 million.
However, despite the anticipated completion of those transfers, Chelsea has maintained a firm stance regarding Mount, despite the England international having just one year remaining on his contract.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag reportedly considers Mount a priority transfer target, especially given the club’s limited activity in the transfer market due to an ongoing takeover process.
The Red Devils have reportedly seen two bids rejected, with the latest offer rumored to be around £55 million, while Chelsea is holding out for a minimum of £60 million.
However, Manchester United is keen to avoid a protracted negotiation and, according to The Times, is preparing a third and final proposal for the midfielder. The offer is expected to exceed £55 million when including add-ons, putting the onus on Chelsea to respond, as all parties involved are interested in facilitating the transfer.
Previous reports have suggested that a compromise could be reached once negotiations reach a certain stage, and Manchester United is aware of the urgency for Chelsea to act before the end of the 2022-23 business period.
Meanwhile, Chelsea is also working on their own signings, having recently completed a deal for RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku. However, the potential sale of Mount could offset the financial outlay, allowing the club to balance their books.
Additionally, Chelsea is keen to secure the signings of Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo and Villarreal forward Nicolas Jackson swiftly to fend off competition from rival clubs.
