As the media previously reported, the match between Manchester United and the Young Boys, scheduled for December 8 at “Old Trafford”, was supposed to be played on neutral ground due to the new situation with the coronavirus in Switzerland.
Due to the appearance of a new variant of the coronavirus, the Swiss decided that everyone who enters their country from Great Britain must go into isolation for 10 days.
UEFA therefore asked to clarify whether this rule also applies to the Young Boys players, who will play a match in Manchester on December 9, and then return to Bern.
The answer came from Switzerland that the football players of the mentioned club will be released from quarantine upon their return to their country.
UEFA has an obligation to ensure that the players of the Young Boys remain in isolation during their stay in England.
Both sides are satisfied with this decision, and possible complications have been avoided if the match was postponed.
We would like to thank the Canton of Bern for their flexibility and exemption, and we say that we will do everything in our power to continue to act as a role model for others – the Young Boys said in a statement.
On the other hand, United are satisfied because if the match had been played in a location other than Old Trafford, the club would have been exposed to millions in losses.
The “Red Devils” have already secured the knockout phase of the Champions League as the winner of Group F, while the Young Boys still have a chance to win the third position, which leads to the Europa League.
In the previous duel between these two rivals, played in Bern, the Young Boys won 2: 1.
