MFPA and Gżira United Veterans to contest VMFA Trophy final

MFPA and Gzira United Veterans will contest the VMFA Trophy final after winning their respective semi-final encounters.

Holders MFPA did not find it easy at all to beat Birkirkara St Helen’s 3-2.

It was a close game with both sides attacking boldly although in the end it was the Malta Football Players Association who emerged victorious.

Alexander Ribic, Gareth Sciberras and George Frendo scored the goals for MFPA with Kevin Sammut standing out for Birkirkara after netting a brace.

Referee was Peter Abela.

Rabat and Gżira United offered a wonderful and balanced game that had to be decided on penalties with the Maroons emerging victorious 4-2. The score until regulation time was 3-3 with Adam Smeir scoring a double for Rabat and Ibrahim Tarek also among the scorers.

Gzira always remained in the game with Arthur Oyama scoring a double and Kevin Vella who also found the back of the net.

Referee was Peter Abela.

The VMFA Trophy final will take place next Wednesday at St Dorothy’s Grounds in Żebbug.
