The Malta FA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bank of Valletta over the naming rights of eight Member Association competitions, with the new titles to take effect in the 2025 to 2026 season.
Under the agreement, the competitions will be named: BOV GIDA League, ISA BOV League, BOV Veterans FA Trophy, BOV MESA League Division 1, BOV Masters League, BOV MFA 70th Anniversary Cup, IASC BOV Super Cup, and BOV SWAN Leagues.

The accord was confirmed at a signing ceremony at Centenary Hall. The agreement was signed by the association’s General Secretary, BOV Chief Operating Officer Ernest Agius, and the President of the Member Associations Standing Committee, Lawrence Aquilina. Also present were the association’s President and Senior Vice President Dr Matthew Paris.
BOV has a longstanding relationship with the Malta FA, having supported multiple competitions over the years. The bank said the new sponsorship deepens its commitment to community sport, with a focus on inclusion and healthier lifestyles across all age groups.
Commenting on the agreement, the Senior Vice President said recreational football is a key pillar for the association, which invests about €130,000 annually to ensure matches are played in safe facilities with quality artificial pitches. He added that the partnership with BOV strengthens this commitment by providing financial assistance to participating associations.
BOV’s Chief Operating Officer said football is more than a sport, describing it as a catalyst for personal growth, community cohesion, and national pride. He said the bank is proud to stand alongside the association to make the game truly accessible for all, contributing to a stronger and more resilient Malta.
Speaking on behalf of the Member Associations Standing Committee, Lawrence Aquilina thanked the association for facilitating the agreement with BOV. He said the financial support would help member bodies offset annual expenses, and was welcomed with open arms.
