Four teams get first round berth after good wins in MAFA KO

Four teams advanced to the first round of the MAFA KO after getting good wins against their respective opponents.

The biggest victory was achieved by Marsa St Michael’s who beat Senglea Gunners 5-0.

By the end of the first half, Malcolm Tirchett’s boys were 4-0 ahead with the Cottonera side who found it very difficult to stop their opponents, particularly Lamin Jaiteh who scored three goals against his former squad.

It was the same Jaiteh who scored three goals in the first half so that Anas Souhaile added another for Marsa.

In the second half, the pace of the game slowed down a bit although Marsa still found time to score another goal two minutes from the end of the match through Shaun Vella.

Marsa now play in the first round against Swieqi United AFC.

Referee was Lorry Sammut.

Third division side Qajjenza ACJ beat Zebbug Youngsters 3-0.

The team from Qajjenza was in control of the match for most of the time and by the end of the first half they were winning 2-0 thanks to Ronnie Celeste and Precious Linus Tenebe.

In the second half Tenebe sealed the victory for Qajjenza ACJ who will now meet St Paul’s Bay NMFC in the next round.

Referee was Sillah Alhasana.

A single goal by Joyfred Farrugia was enough for Hamrun Amateurs to beat Mqabba Albions.

It was in the 24th minute that Farrugia scored to beat the opposing goalkeeper.

Despite the efforts of the Albions to equalize the score, the Hamrun side held tight to get the qualification where they now face Birżebbuġa St Peter’s.

Referee was Igor Kankaras.

Finally Valletta Stars St Dominic beat Ta’ Giorni Wanderers 2-1 in a very interesting game.

The Stars established a double advantage until the end of the first half through Federico Marine in the 9th minute and Jose David Diaz Urango in the 16th minute.

The second half was a better one for Ta’ Giorni who scored in the 46th minute through Samuel Barthet but they didn’t manage to equalize so they were eliminated from this competition.

For their part, Valletta play against Mosta Vikings in the first round next Saturday.

Referee was Paul Apap.

San Giljan Saints took a 2-0 walk-over against Ħal Far Titans.
