In a social media post Floriana FC said that the Club considers that several refereeing errors occurred during the Jubiliee Cup game against Ħamrun Spartans last bight, which clearly affected the flow and the final result of the game to the detriment of Floriana FC.
The club wrote ‘Unfortunately, this is not the first time that decisions made by referee Philip Farrugia have directly harmed Floriana FC, raising serious concerns about consistency and professional conduct in officiating local competitions’
The statement added ‘Floriana FC urges the Malta Football Association to seriously consider these circumstances and to take the necessary steps to ensure justice and transparency in Maltese football refereeing. The Club remains committed to promoting respect towards match officials, but at the same time expects accountability and consistency in the application of the Laws of the Game’
In the statement the Club did not confirm that an official letter / email of complaint was or will be sent to the MFA’s Head of Referees Department Alan Mario Sant about this accident. Sources close to the MFA confirmed that the Malta FA is not obliged to entertain into discussions or communication with Clubs through social media.
Floriana FC however added ‘At this moment, and in view of yesterday’s incidents, the Club will have no other alternative but to escalate the actions of Philip Farrugia to all relevant associations, including FIFA, UEFA, MFA, and MFRA, while safeguarding all its rights’
