Louis Van Gaal, the selector of the Dutch national football team, said on local television that he was suffering from prostate cancer.
He pointed out that he did not want to reveal that earlier due to the influence on the players during the matches.
“In all the periods when I was the coach of the national team, I had to go to the hospital at night, without the players finding out so far. While I thought I was healthy. But… I didn’t. I didn’t want to say that to my players because it could have affected their releases,” said Louis van Gaal.
He did not say whether there will be benches at the World Cup in Qatar.
He was recently absent from a game in the Netherlands, but then it was not cancer, but a hip injury.
