Juventus footballer Niccolò Fagioli admitted to investigators that he bet on football matches, writes the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. The Old Lady midfielder has been under investigation for more than a month.
Athletes in Italy are prohibited from betting on matches organized by the Italian Football Association, UEFA and FIFA and are prohibited from placing bets directly or indirectly.
If they break the law, they face a fine of no less than 25,000 euros and a ban from playing for up to three years. But Faggioli confessed, so the sentence will probably be less. The key is to prove that he bet on matches in which he did not play himself. His lawyers will be able to state as a mitigating circumstance that Faggioli is addicted to betting, but in that case he will have to go to treatment.
Fagioli has been at Juventus since he was 14 years old. He made his debut for the first team in 2021, and so far he has played 339 minutes for it in six games this season. In total, he has played 45 games for Juventus with three goals and six assists.
