Juventus have been dealt a significant blow with the news that young defender Cabal has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee, as confirmed by the Colombian national team’s medical staff. This devastating injury effectively ends his season. Cabal will soon return to Turin for further examinations at JMedical, but barring any surprises, the initial diagnosis is expected to be confirmed.
This latest setback comes on top of an already challenging situation for Juventus, who recently lost star centre-back Bremer to a long-term injury. The loss of Cabal leaves coach Thiago Motta with limited options in defence until at least January. At present, Motta’s available defensive line-up includes Kalulu, Gatti, Cambiaso, Danilo, Savona, and Rouhi, along with the promising young talent Gil Puche, born in 2006. However, this group may not be sufficient to sustain the club through a demanding season filled with domestic and European fixtures.
Over the next month and a half, Motta has to navigate without any further injuries, hoping to maintain the squad’s stability. Looking ahead, Juventus will rely heavily on Cristiano Giuntoli, who is set to focus his efforts on reinforcing the defence during the January transfer window, potentially at the expense of attacking reinforcements.
One of Juventus’ primary targets has long been Milan Skriniar, the former Inter Milan star currently on the fringes at Paris Saint-Germain. The Bianconeri are eager to bring him back to Serie A, but even if Skriniar is secured, it’s clear that one signing alone will not be enough to cover their defensive needs.
In addition to Skriniar, Juventus are exploring other options to bolster their backline. Kevin Danso, currently excelling with Lens and the Austrian national team, is once again being considered after failing a medical with Roma last summer.
As Juventus heads into the crucial winter transfer window, securing the right defensive reinforcements has become an urgent priority. Strengthening their backline will be essential for the Bianconeri to stabilize their season and remain competitive in both Serie A and European competitions.
