The temperamental sixty-two-year-old football expert, Jorge Sampaoli, will be the new coach of Sevilla, according to the Spanish football newspaper ‘MARCA’.
Sampaoli will begin his term on the Sevilla bench on Thursday after the match with Borussia Dortmund, according to the newspaper. He has already managed the Andalusian club once, in the 2016/17 season, when he signed a 2nd year contract. However, after only a few months spent on the Sevilla bench, he received an invitation to lead the Argentine national team, which he could not refuse and left the club.
The Argentine Football Association handed him his resignation after France’s relegation at the 2018 World Cup, and after that he moved to Brazil, where he managed Santos and Atlético Mineiro.
He returned to the Old Continent on February 26, 2021, when he arrived on the bench of Olympique de Marseille. The previous season, the Marseille team, under his leadership, finished in second place and won direct placement in the Champions League. During the transfer window, Jorge Sampaoli did not receive enough funds from the club’s management to build the team he wanted and decided to hand the Velodrome club his resignation.
On the other hand, Lopetegui has been struggling with Sevilla since the beginning of the season. They have only 5 points in LaLiga and only one win, and in the Champions League they are last in the group with one point and no goals conceded in the first round.
