Malta finalise 26 man squad for UEFA Nations League play-off against Luxembourg

Malta national teams head coach Emilio De Leo has confirmed his final 26-man squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League play-off against Luxembourg, with promotion to League C at stake.

The tie will be contested over two legs, with Malta first hosting Luxembourg at the National Stadium in Ta’ Qali on Thursday, 26 March, before travelling for the return leg in Luxembourg City on Tuesday, 31 March. Both matches are scheduled to kick off at 18:00.

One notable absentee is James Carragher, who will not be available for selection during this international window. The Malta FA said the decision was taken following discussions with his club, with the player still not fully recovered. The Association added that it respects Carragher’s need to prioritise his recovery and looks forward to seeing him return to full fitness.

Supporters have also been encouraged to turn out in strong numbers for the home leg, with tickets already available as Malta prepare for what promises to be a decisive double header.

De Leo’s squad includes a blend of experienced figures and emerging talent across all areas of the pitch. In goal, Malta will rely on Henry Bonello, Rashed Al Tumi and Matthias Debono.

The defensive department features Zach Muscat, Juan Carlos Corbalan, Kurt Shaw, Enrico Pepe, Jean Borg, Gabriel Mentz, Ryan Camenzuli and Myles Beerman.

In midfield, the coach has selected Matthew Guillaumier, Brandon Diego Paiber, Alexander Satariano, Yannick Yankam, Jake Azzopardi, Teddy Teuma, Adam Magri Overend and Jake Grech.

Up front, Malta will look to Joseph E. Mbong, Paul Mbong, Ilyas Chouaref, Irvin Cardona, Trent Buhagiar, Keyon Ewurum and Andrea Zammit for attacking inspiration. Joseph E. Mbong, however, will be unavailable for the first leg due to suspension.

The upcoming matches offer Malta a major opportunity to secure promotion and continue building momentum under De Leo, with Luxembourg now standing between the national team and a place in League C.
