Rashed Al-Tumi completes move to Sheriff Tiraspol in Moldova

Rashed Al-Tumi has been announced as the latest addition to Moldovan powerhouse Sheriff Tiraspol, according to a club statement.

The towering goalkeeper arrived in Moldova earlier this week for his medical examination and officially signed a three-year contract.

Al-Tumi will make history as the first Maltese player to compete in the top division of Moldovan football, and this move is expected to contribute to his further career development.

Earlier this month, the Times of Malta reported that Sheriff had approached Sliema Wanderers with an offer to sign Al-Tumi. After negotiations, the two parties quickly reached an agreement.

This will not be Al-Tumi’s first experience playing abroad, as the 23-year-old spent a significant part of his teenage years honing his skills in Italy. In 2016, the towering goalkeeper joined Palermo and subsequently represented Casarano, Arzachena, and Nocerina.

In January 2022, Al-Tumi returned to Maltese football by joining Sliema Wanderers. During his time with the Blues, he played a pivotal role in their promotion to the Premier League and was instrumental in their third-place finish in the league as well as their FA Trophy triumph last season.
