Paris Saint-Germain on Thursday declined to pay former striker Kylian Mbappe a contested £47 million despite an earlier directive from the French league (LFP) to do so.
The LFP manages all affairs related to the top two football divisions in France, but PSG stated they would pursue a legal ruling elsewhere.
The 25-year-old forward claims PSG owe him £47 million in wages and bonuses, but the Parisians assert Mbappe agreed to forgo the money in August 2023.
On Thursday, the LFP commission instructed PSG to pay, reportedly within seven days, prompting a response from the Qatari-backed club.
“Given the limitations of the Commission’s legal authority to make a comprehensive decision on this matter, the case must now be pursued in another court.”
“PSG will eagerly present all the facts over the coming months and year.”
Lawyers representing both parties met early on Wednesday after Mbappe, who joined Real Madrid this summer, had referred his case to the LFP’s legal committee.
