Newcastle United have acquired 19-year-old defender Miodrag Pivas from Serbian team Jedinstvo Ub, the Premier League club announced on Saturday.

The Serbian youth international, who is also adept as a box-to-box midfielder, spent the majority of his formative years in Austria, playing for Siezenheim and Grodig, before transferring to Jedinstvo last year. “Miodrag is a promising talent with high potential,” Newcastle’s CEO Darren Eales mentioned in a statement.

“I see the project of the club and it looks great which helped convince me to sign for Newcastle,” Pivas remarked. The Magpies commence their league season against newly promoted Southampton on August 17.
