Liverpool‘s newly appointed manager, Arne Slot, has emphasized his intention to build upon the solid foundation established by his predecessor, Juergen Klopp, rather than starting from scratch.
After more than eight successful years at the helm, Klopp stepped down from his position, allowing Slot to take the reins last month. In a recent interview published on the club’s website, Slot expressed his admiration for the team’s current state, stating that they are in a really good place. He acknowledged the impressive performance of the players last season and affirmed his commitment to building upon their achievements. Slot also emphasized the importance of bringing along individuals who are familiar with his playing style and can effectively communicate it to the rest of the staff.
Recognizing the wealth of talent already present within the club, he plans to combine the best elements of both his own approach and the knowledge accumulated during Klopp’s nine-year tenure.
Slot mentioned that his attacking style of football resembled that of Liverpool under Klopp. According to Slot, this similarity may have been one of the reasons why they approached him. He added that he and his team drew inspiration from the playing styles of Guardiola and Klopp. Slot believes that when working at a big club, such as Feyenoord, playing possession-based football with high energy is the only way to go.
Liverpool’s next match is a pre-season game against Real Betis on July 26th, followed by their first Premier League match against Ipswich Town on August 17th.
