Gareth Southgate has been knighted in the New Year Honours. The former England manager, who led the team to the Euro 2024 final and the 2018 World Cup semi-finals, stepped down in July. He is only the fourth England manager to receive this honour. FA chair Debbie Hewitt praised Southgate for uniting fans and inspiring the team.
Other sports figures recognised include Welsh rugby legend Gerald Davies, who also receives a knighthood. Keely Hodgkinson, Olympic 800m champion, has been made an MBE, while Paralympian Hannah Cockroft gets a CBE.
Football figures honoured include former West Ham manager David Moyes (OBE) and Northern Ireland’s Marissa Callaghan (MBE).
